Ku-Ring-Gai Bowmen Inc is a target archery club. We shoot outdoor archery every Sunday at Edenborough Oval in Lindfield.
The morning starts at about 9.00am, when the day’s rounds are established as set out in the shooting calendar, and archers are allocated to targets. Then we unpack the targets and set them up on the field.
We generally shoot defined rounds, both casually and competitively, and we take safety very seriously. Here is more detail about a how a typical Sunday morning proceeds.
Archers of all ages, genders and abilities are welcome, from complete beginners to experienced competitors, including wheelchair users and differently-abled participants.
Our club has several coaches and instructors who are Nationally accredited through Archery Australia. Many of our members are actively involved in State and National tournaments, and in past years, members have competed and medalled in world archery championships.
Target archery – this form of the sport – is controlled by World Archery, the governing body for international target archery, through the national body Archery Australia and the state body (RGB) ArcheryNSW. World Archery used to be called FITA – Fédération Internationale de Tir à l’Arc.
Once a month we run a Handicap round, and finish with a sausage sizzle.
Every member is eligible to compete, with each score adjusted by a calculation which accounts for the archer’s rated capability.
A specially designed mug is awarded to first place, for the highest adjusted score. This system of archers’ Ratings and Handicap adjustments is maintained by the club Recorder.
More information is in the Club Procedures
Our Annual General Meeting is held in late July or early August every year, and we let down afterwards with a mid-year dinner.
At the end of the calendar year we hold a celebratory event; a picnic, barbecue or catered function, to which all members, families, beginners and visitors are invited.
We have tools to suit all archery requirements: equipment setup and repair, fabrication and adjustment.
Many members are experienced in equipment tuning and maintenance and are always prepared and happy to assist novices. There are BBQ facilities, toilets, a clubroom and storage space.
The range is accessible to wheelchair participants.
We currently have around 60 members, with a range of ages varying from under 12 years to over 70 years, men, women, boys and girls. Disabled and wheelchair participants are welcome as active members.
If you have previous archery experience or accreditation, such as participation with another another club, membership with us is easily done.
If not, come and do our beginners’ course – if you are new to the sport it is highly recommended.
One-off joining fee of $35.00 for initial membership.
